The "2005" edition of the best-selling Madden NFL sports game series hits the field with another new season's worth of refinements and additions. Attention has been paid to the defensive game in this version, with enhancements intended to give gamers more options and more control when they're playing from the other side of the football. Many of this year's new features involve the NFL players themselves, however, calling upon gamers to maintain and develop their star athletes. Players are now rewarded for their good performances throughout the season, and individuals can be affected by the ebb and flow of morale.<br><br>Madden 2005 offers "hit stick," control, which allows the right analog stick to be used to perform the kind of huge, momentum-shifting hits that fans will hear way up in the nosebleed section. Risks are involved, however, and players who miss tackles under the hit stick system's less rigid controls have only themselves to blame. Gamers can also involve themselves more deeply in defensive strategy than they could in earlier versions of Madden NFL. The new Defensive Playmaker Control system allows them to modify assignments for any player on the field, to set up blitzes, jams, and individual man-to-man coverage, right up until the moment the ball is snapped.<br><br>Madden fans who are in it for the long haul will also find new Franchise mode features in this year's game. As they progress through the seasons, they'll be able to name their team's captain, claim their top stars as franchise players, and allow other players to take free agent status. A virtual Tony Bruno presents a weekly, in-game radio show that discusses all the major events in the league, and may allude to the personalities behind the players. When a player is unhappy, he won't play his best; the gamer can choose to make adjustments or trade him away. Franchise gamers can also read sports page-style announcements and check their in-game email to keep up on all the latest information.<br><br>Once again, John Madden is joined by Al Michaels to provide color commentary and the play-by-play. Jill Arrington reports from the field. Gamers can even customize the fans in the stands of this year's game, choosing from thousands of possible combinations of clothing, headwear, face paint, and unique, team-specific accouterments. Other convincing new elements include pre-game and post-game shows, featuring confetti and fireworks, and environmental effects, with realistic lighting and weather that can change in the middle of a game. Hundreds of new animations have been added for more realistic player movements, both on the field and on the sidelines.<br><br>For the first time in the series' history, the Xbox version of Madden NFL is compatible with EA Sports' online services. Network-connected Madden NFL 2005 gamers can log on to EA Sports Online to find a live challenge from a fellow fan.

    Great game in every way

    I haven't played 06 version so I am basing this off previous versions but I think EA sports did a great job with this one. One thing I look for in a sports sim is not just game play but managing ability too. This game truly combines the two. Whether you like just playing or managing a team to build a dynasty - this game has it all. Game play is great. The control of the players and the in game play is just unbeatable and the commentating is pretty decent (doesn't get too repetitious as other games do). Managing - this is where EA excels. As a coach you have complete control on salary cap, drafting, free agents, training, recruiting and trades. I was a bit dissapointed on how easy it is to trade draft pick for draft pick.     hAPPY FOR EBAY

    First let me say Thank you to Ebay. With their search engine I was able to find Madden 2005 for my 6 year old son. He loves sports and football is like on the top of his list. He currently have over 12 football, small, medium and large(full size). He is currently in 1st grade. And he had most of the 2000 series Madden. Somehow 2005 got damaged and he really like that one, so, as I was on Ebay, I found it, I bided on it, and the end result...I WON IT. I have found so many thing on Ebay, I will continue to use it for everything that I am looking for and even for thing that I did not realize that I wanted. Thanks again

    XBOX NFL Great Non Violent Game

    I bought this game for my nephew. Whom my brother is trying to get away from violent games. This is perfect. My nephew is a big sports fan and has loved this game since I gave it to him for Christmas. Came in new and has been worth every penny I spent plus some. My nephew has given it a 2 thumbs and 2 big toes up for it.

    Takes time to learn but worth it

    The game is kind of complicated. You must understand the game of football to really get good at this game. But the game has lots of features in it that makes the game that much more real. If you dont know the game well i would'nt buy it , but if you love the game like i do you will love it

    Madden NFL 2005 (Xbox)

    You like football? You like video games? Then you will love Madden NFL. But you can love it just as much on playstation or regular XBOX. Its really not that much different a game from system to system. So, I say YES to the game and NO to the xbox 360. Don’t buy the 360 just to play Madden, if you just want to play Madden, play it on playstation or regular XBOX. Regardless of what game system you play Madden on, it’s the best game available to play. If you like football, and you like video games, this is the best way to go. Nothing beats Madden. I play it on playstation all the time and love it online or against the computer.
